5 stars for food Their Memphis sandwich is one of the beat I've ever had! 3.5 for atmosphere/service Service was nothing special and the people were very loud, even for a bar. Good experience nonetheless. Will definitely return!

Great little pub borrowing the name of local University mascot. Very authentic feel, great place to watch a match on TV and very good selection of beer. If that's all you want, then four stars! Now for why 3 stars. The food sucks. The service is very good, but being brutally honest, this town sets the bar a bit higher and they need to raise their game. I highly recommend Baranby's on High Street for an overall superior experience including the food.

This was our second time here. Got some wings, they were on special. Pretzel bites were warm and we had cheese sauce with them. Wife had burger and it was great, she had to share as it was so large. Lucky me!

Went for lunch on a cold January day. The atmosphere was quiet with some activity. It was a very comfortable environment. The menu selection is interesting, with different sandwiches inspired by international cuisine. The beer selection is equally as fitting, with a delightful choice of fine bottled beers. It was reasonably priced, and I will certainly return.

After now being officially 21 I had to update, because here's the sitch: Ram's Head is and continues to be the chillest bar hang-out in West Chester. Beer lovers... if you're looking for a place to go that is 100% about the beer, you're probably going to be tempted to go to Iron Hill. Skip that whole plan and head to Ram's Head instead. This place has a rotating menu of craft brews and they also have a huge selection of bottled beers. They also have my favorite beer on tap at all times--Bell's Two Hearted IPA. swoon. Also, this place doesn't get loud and rowdy like the other bars. They have weird live music on the weekends, usually some folksy dude with a guitar, but it creates some kind of comfortable vibe. Come as you are and chill out with friends! Especially come for the big game--I went here alone for the world cup and felt totally comfortable, met some great people too. The food is where the star drops. It's all hit or miss. Some of the hits include the poutine, the pretzel bites, and the filet mignon cheesesteak. Many of the other food items are delicious, but very very overpriced (I'm looking at you mediocre chicken wings and chicken empinadas.) Also, they've dropped the table cloths, a good decision because Rams Head is way better this way. CONCLUSION: cheers to the best selection of beer in town! quality: amazing beer selection, food is sometimes a birdy and sometimes a bogey price: More expensive than a dive, but worth it if you know what to get and what to skip.

Ramshead is a very typical but comfortable pub/bar in West Chester. The upstairs has a nice supper ambiance with terrific beers. The booths are private and located by the window which is a great spot for a date night (not a first date, but Friday night girlfriend date). Food is good, Beer is great, employees are nice. Downstairs is a different ambiance. It has the dive bar feel to it, which believe it or not, I kind of like. It has a wrap around bar with various games such as dart board, punching bag and a jukebox. Smoking is permitted, which as a drink/drunk-smoker I am fine with. I would however be in favor of having smoking banned because it makes the environment very stuffy. Also, if you step out for a smoke while drinking it's kinda nice instead of just bumming away in your bar stool. It's a place to meet up with your buddy and let loose not necessarily the place you take your girlfriend or wife to grab a martini. Draft beers are always a killer and I swear the yuengling never tasted better. Cheers to the classic pub joint!

Great restaurant in the West Chester area. I tried their El Fuego burger and it was fantastic. Their wheat beer is excellent too! Their outside seating needs a little revamp but everything else is great. Service is fast and friendly, I will come back specially during the fall and winter.

Very casual bar. Low key and people are friendly. I wouldn't consider this bar as gastropub though.. Food was disappointing. Poutine was lack of flavor and baked macaronie & cheese was not any better than mac & cheese I make at home using the box. I would stop by for happy hour (1/2 off) for a quick drink or hanging out if I'm not hungry.

Staff here is really friendly. Great atmosphere. I didn't eat any food but my friends who did said it was good. I really wanted to take a picture with the ram in the back but maybe another time.

We've lived in West Chester for almost 3 years now and had only been to Ram's Head a handful of times until recently. We decided to stop in one Friday night and discovered they have half price apps and discounted drafts until 7. Since then we have returned several times. We love the poutine, wings, pretzels bites, beef & beer sandwich, and filet mignon cheesesteak. Their beer selection is great and their bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. This is becoming our favorite Friday night dinner spot.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the food that was Served for lunch. The filet mignon cheesesteak was knock your socks off, drop your pants good . I think the burger was very good but I wouldn't rank it is highly as the cheesesteak. The Sirachi coleslaw was very tasty, portions were good, and a nice beer selection rounds it out. All in quality good, reasonable prices. Worth a return trip.

Came here some time ago after a Christmas shopping trip nearby. Needless to say, I was hungry, probably a bit of a grumpus and Ram's head fixed that right up. Decent beer list and typical bar food. The gent I was with was pretty stoked to see Sweet Baby Jesus on the bar list, so he was surely satisfied. For food we split the poutine and a burger. The Poutine is a fatty cheesy dish that hits the spot when in need of a greasy fix. Fries with melted cheese curd, parm cheese and gravy. Holy moly. Definitely gained some lb's after that one. Our burger of choice was the Don't Judge Me Burger and I definitely judged myself after housing half of it. Beef burger topped with cheddar cheese, avocado, onion rings (not just one, but a STACK), pulled pork, fried egg and smoked paprika aioli. I am a sucker for anything with a fried egg on top. The burger came with a choice of side - we got tots (win!) and a trifecta of sauces. Each one was equally as good as the next. All in all, this place hit the spot.

Get the nachos! I ordered them because I wasn't particularly hungry and what ended up coming was more than I could have ever imagined! Plenty of food to just split with a friend for a meal. Great atmosphere. I came to watch NFL playoffs with my boyfriend and he enjoyed it even more than me. I had a cocktail (the name escapes me) but it tasted like grape cough syrup. Other than that I had a great experience!

The restroom was disgusting. The food was just OK and the service was poor.

So I met the Chef while eating here, Chef Scott, very cool dude. I also met the GM, I think his name is James, or Jim, anyway, great experience, and both gentlemen took the time to say hello, despite how busy they were. I had a blast with my daughters and I stepped outside of my comfort zone for the evening and tried to go completely gluten free. Normally this is torture for me, but these guys pulled it off, and I really wanted to support my daughter who has an intolerance to gluten. My meal was great and so were my daughter's meals. I had the Bacon Deviled Eggs, really nice. Down south, well south of Philly, I had something similar that totally blew my socks off, these devil eggs were right inline with them. I had the fish tacos, also very good, one of my kids had the El Fuego burger, while the other went for the Traditional. We also split some Edamame and Nachos. I have to say I was very impressed with the entire overall experience. I would definitely go back.

Every person I talk to in West Chester, I make it my duty to inform them that RAMS HEAD HAS THE BEST FOOD IN ALL OF WEST CHESTER for the prices that they offer. Obviously this is not a fine dining establishment and is no Pietros, but nor are they claiming to be. It is exactly what they say it is: West Chester's first gastro-pub. I am not so much a beer snob, but I do love a good sandwich. Their sandwiches are amazing but their nachos??? PERFECTION. Seriously the best nachos I have ever had (which says a lot for having a mexican restaurant directly across the street). Each of their sandwiches come with these three sauces on the side which I never leave a drop of. This is the spot to watch a baseball game, enjoy a pitcher of beer and some great wings or any other type of food. My boyfriend and I go here at least once a week now for six years.

Everything was very nice about this place... Rich our server was fast and very helpful from the time we walked in up until the time we left. The bathroom wasn't bad.. I like to include this in the review because I know it may be of concern for people of an older age. Last thing since it wasn't such a busy day we got to meet the manager of the establishment who seemed to be very together and was also very nice when he saw us out the door. Last thing being a bar... Even though it wasn't busy you could still be loud without having any worries.

We were here on a Thursday evening. There was a crowd around the bar, but the rest of the place was empty. There was only one other booth occupied. The beer selection was great. I had the poutine (meh... not enough gravy; I wouldn't order it again) and the chicken & goat cheese salad (really, really good). Service was super-friendly. The only downside was that we ate with our coats on, because it was COLD in there.

Have to admit they've earned the moniker 'Gastropub' I had some kind of chicken curry in a baked bread cone - never saw that before. It was really good and paired well with my beer. Their Calamari is also very unique, it's served drizzled with some kind of a Sriracha style sauce, everyone I bring to try it, loves it. The place has a nice old authentic feel to it, and has a great balance between bar and restaurant.

Great beer selection, solid food and a fun pub-style atmosphere. Make sure to get the beer flight sampler. It's a great way to try new beer. They even write down the name of the beer next to each glass, so you can keep everything straight. The food is pretty standard bar food. I just wish the menu was larger. Nothing is over the top, but what they make they do well. Can't go wrong with their burger or the cheese steak. Overall, this is the perfect chill spot to grab pub food, a beer and hang with friends. Would definitely recommend this place for the beer over the food, but still a fun experience overall. Try to grab a window seat to people watch (in a non-creepy way).

Haven't eaten here yet, but love the bar and atmosphere. Quite excellent beer selection and the nitro option is always a nice surprise. Bartenders friendly and you can usually find a spot and see a TV.

We went to Rams Head recently for a friend's birthday dinner. I've never been to this establishment for dinner before, so let's just say I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. We made reservations ahead of time for about 20 people. When we arrived, our table was ready and we were seated immediately towards the back of the restaurant (a perfect location for a large group). The waitress was on top of things! She let us know the drink specials right away and refilled us no more then 2 minutes after finishing our drinks. There were plenty of beers on tap, and at a reasonable price. The mixed drinks were a little pricey ($10 for a 7 and 7?), but they were big. We started with the chicken nachos, and the fried calamari. Both were amazing! The calamari was fried and coated in a spicy honey garlic sauce, and the nachos came perfectly proportioned with chicken, cheese, sour cream, etc. The appetizers were huge and filling. By the time we were done appetizers, I did not have much room for dinner but decided to split a burger with my friend. I was not disappointed! Perfectly cooked and great flavor. I did not stay at the bar after dinner, so I cannot say how it was on a Saturday night. As for the restaurant..... I will def be back! I think next time I will try their grilled cheese!

Out of this world draft beer selection at great prices -- $5 beer flight sampler! Nice gastropub fare, I loved the bibb lettuce wraps w/ chicken and the Cuban sandwich was pretty good as well. What's really great about this place is that you can have a nice meal upstairs, then slink your way downstairs for a cigarette after dinner. It's like 2 completely separate bars under the same roof. So there's something for everyone.

Surprisingly interesting menu featuring a "street food of the world" special and two soups of the day, We had the zucchini and smokes Gouda soup and it was excellent. She had a fresh burger with interest sauces on the aide. I had sugar cane skewered pork tenderloin with molasses glaze. we had to take half if it home. Rams head is a bat, and the beer selection is varied and deep. There was a live singer on Friday night. A great, comfortable alternative to the dreaded sports bars so prevalent in college towns. Reasonable prices and far above average offerings.

Lived in West Chester a year and went to this place a few times. They have a very good beer selection if you're not in the mood for typical beers. Has a downstairs but I didn't go down. Food was good for a bar, only had burgers though but it seemed like they had a decent menu. Other than that it was just a typical bar and it seemed to get hot inside rather quick.

Great selection of beer. Good pub food with a different approach. Really loved the fish tacos I had here and the plantain chips were a great snack as well. This place is way better than Baxter's that used to occupy the building.

    (4)
  • Rodge B.

If you can deal with smoke, head for the downstairs. Not as good as the original in Annapolis, but it had $2 Bud Lights on Fridays with live music and quite the interesting crowd.

Used to drink here quite a bit when it was Baxter's. I guess somebody bought it and had tried (pretty successfully) to transform it into a gastropub. Downstairs is still Baxter's apparently, and is the place to go for domestic beer specials, sticky floors and quite possibly a fight or two. Sat at the bar and had a west coast IPA on tap from their fairly substantial beer menu. Beer prices are pretty fair compared with some other higher-end tap houses. The food menu is brief but definitely your pretty standard gastropub favorites (big burgers, hand-cut fries, steak sandwiches, mussels, etc.). They have a few big plates on the menu as well if you feel like sitting down with the little lady (or man). I went with the Ram Burger, which is a lamb burger served on a fresh brioche bun. The burger tasted great and the three aiolis that came along with it were quite honestly delicious. What I didn't slather on my burger I used as a dipping sauce for the crispy-outside, mashed potato-y inside fries. They were excellent. The place loses a few points, however, for overcooking my burger pretty substantially. Lamb has less fat than beef, obviously, so while the same doneness may have left the beef burger somewhat juicy, it made my lamb patty pretty dry and crumbly. I ordered medium and what I got was well done. Not a deal breaker, but a stain on an otherwise stellar report card.

This place is nice and chill on a Friday night for dinner. Live music. Good beer selection, and they even try to suggest beer pairings. There was an awesome veggie sandwich special when I was here, my brother loved his pulled pork burger, my friend thought his Spanish baguette was eh but good chips and fries. Overall liked the atmosphere. I would come back.

  • Christopher S.

The beer selection is probably one of the best in West Chester. In fact, it's about time a decent gastro-pub made it's way out here. I hope it lasts since most of the people I see here are drinking Coors. Actually that's probably the worst thing about this place. There is such a dichotomy between the beer geeks in here to drink great brew and the meat-head DB's who roll in around 10 and ruin the atmosphere and gourge themselves on Coors. I guess it can't be helped considering this place's history as a college pub. The food is good. I've had a number of dishes, including the Cuban Sandwich, wings, and a burger or two, that were mouth watering and gastro pub delicious.

  • Amanda N.

The downstairs bar is our favorite in West Chester when you just want to keep it laid back and have a good time. It's smoking friendly so my boyfriend enjoys that and it has your classic bar time fun with darts, beer pong, music. The bartenders are welcoming and service is generally quick. The food is above average and they have great specials that change regularly that includes a "street food" special that is always awesome

This is has been my go to bar since it has open. The beer selection is great, everyone knows your name, and they have the best nachos. It's a great spot to watch the game with tons of TVs and the place has a great casual vibrant feel to it. It is certainly not a dive bar with a good menu. The college crowd doesn't roll in until 10 and they usually go downstairs. I also recommend sitting at the high top tables.

Me and my friend came here to eat before seeing a show at The Note and had an awesome meal. First thing that got me excited was a beer menu! They have a great list to choose from and also the beer menu suggests meals that will pair well with the beer. I tried a few beers that I have not had and had a great sandwich. Staff seemed very friendly and also was willing to chat it up with us while we discussed the different beers. Definitely check this place out if your enjoy a good beer selection and fresh delicious food!

This was a fun place. It was Sunday, before the Eagles game, and I brought the family in for dinner before dropping off my Daughter at WCU. Good College vibe bar/grill. Plenty of good beverages on tap. Everyone but me ordered the "You're Bacon Me Crazy" burger and claimed it was awesome. I had the Meatloaf sandwich, and while tasty, could have used more tomato sauce. The servers were a little harried, as they were busy. One or two slip ups on the order, but they took 10% off the tab without me mentioning anything. We will be back.

Took a group of friend here for dinner and drink. Decent beer list - 4 stars Food - 3 stars. If you like spicy food, I recommend the honey sriracha wings. Service - 5 stars

This is my second time here and it is excellent. The burgers are outstanding and this last time I had the rams head (ground lamb). I had a similar, $30 burger in NYC and this was better than that. We had the fried brussel sprouts as an app which is reason enough to come back. Happy hour is great with 1/2 price apps and $3 microbrews. I love West Chester and this place will have me stopping by more often.

I went there with my father for Wing night, (Sundays and Wednesdays) the wings are 50 cents each. The wings were crispy, hot, big, and the flavors were good! I personally liked the Thai chile flavor best, but the hot wings were classically good too. Definitely good bar food!

    (4)
  • John D.

Stopped in for a few drinks and a bite to eat. I guess we were there at "happy hour"... the bartender pointed out that the sandwiches on the menu were half price. We got the filet mignon cheesesteaks. I think it ended up costing us about $4 each...... one of the best I have ever had. Goin' back again soon.

Huge beer selection. Upstairs (Rams Head) has great food / bar. Downstairs (Baxters) doesn't serve food and you can smoke.

Alright. Big bar scene so if you're looking for a quiet place for a date or place to take your parents I would Not choose this place at night. They've got this great burger called the Don't Jude Me Burger that is my go to, and I love the three aioli sauces you get with fries, it's a cool alternative to ketchup without being any healthier. Everything else is pretty good. Nice beer selection, lots of craft stuff that changes all the time. Overall it's a better version of Barnaby's and Kildare's; gourmet burgers and party hardy atmosphere in abundance.

  • Mark F.

When I am looking to grab a good craft brew in town, Ram's Head is definitely the first thought to come to mind. I'd also argue that they have the best nachos (and some of the best burgers) in town too, so that's always a plus. I am beyond happy about the fact that they redid the basement and that it is now smoke free. I always thought it was a space with some solid potential so it's nice to know that they are finally utilizing it. Looking forward to my next visit.

Best Bar Food in Town. Rams Head always has a great craft beer list with great special. I've eaten here many times and was never disappointed. Their nachos are great and the burgers are huge. It has a collegey feel to it but you go early on it's great for families.

  • Samantha R.

Great food and even better happy hour! Rams head is a great spot for happy hour with $4 dollar drafts, a solid craft-beer selection and 1/2 prices apps and cheese steaks. Good bar and restaurant seating! The menu has good food but can be a little pricey for what they actually offer portion and quality wise. The servers and bartenders are prompt. An added bonus for this place is the downstairs area where you can smoke, play arcade games and dance!

  • Emily S.

Went here one night with a co-worker for a few drinks and dinner. We sat at the bar and I figured I'd just order the chicken and goat cheese salad. I was NOT expecting it to be as good as it was. I even said to the bartender that it was hands down the best salad I had ever had (and who honestly gets excited over a salad?) Well, I did. Bartenders were friendly and attentive and it was overall just a refreshing experience. I wish I lived closer because I would definitely like to try more of their menu items. Awesome place!

    (5)
  • Joe P.

I gave it 5 stars not because it's fancy but because of the pure comfort; both in the food and the setting. The chef changes the menu daily but it's always something fun, tasty and just a little unexpected. It's as-of-yet undiscovered and therefore uncrowded when the bars on Gay Street are packed.

  • Michael K.

Happy hour pricing with a great beer selection is a must try location. Had the nachos which was fair at best. Plenty of TVs to watch multiple sports venues. Great place to ramp up before raging in town later in the night!

I am here just about every week and will keep coming back. Food is great and the beer list (what i am there for) is always great and the draft beer is constantly changing to keep it fresh.

Wow, this is amazing pub food hidden in west Chester, my favorite place and home to some great specials, def a different level that stands out

  • Sara G.

Great selection of food and beer all reasonably priced. Love their Argentinian burger, while my husband really likes the Louisville Hot Brown. And the calamari is great, but spicy! They also added crispy avocado slices which were really interesting and good. Service is also great. They've changed their menu up a little recently, so I'm looking forward to going back and trying some new things.

  • Joe B.

Chill place. Downstairs you can still smoke which is a huge plus because not many other bars in the area still let you do that. The bouncer Steve at the door is a cool guy and very friendly. Prices are decent for drinks and food, and the food is of very good quality. I've walked out of here wasted at 2am so many times I can't even count!

    (4)
  • Eric H.

I have been here more times that I can count and I love it. They constantly change their diverse beer selection. They serve one featured beer cask conditioned and one beer with a nitrogen tap. The staff is very friendly and will remember your name if you frequent there a lot. The food is very good, a notch or two above your typical bar food. Although, I mostly come here to drink the wide selection of beers they have.
